Before, during and after Veterans Day, Scottsdale is saluting those who served in the military.
After all, city founder Winfield Scott was an honored veteran; he served in the Union Army as a captain in the 126th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded five times during the war, including during the 1863 battle at Gettysburg.
Around Old Town, 50 banners featuring Scott and other Scottsdale veterans and active military personnel are on display.
The city’s annual Veterans Day Commemoration will again express gratitude to those who served.
This year’s event kicks off with a keynote address from U.S. Air Force veteran Mario Valencia, who will share his story of “resilience and recovery” as a survivor of the 1995 attack on the Khobar Towers barracks in Saudi Arabia.
