A lorry driver has tragically died on the M25, leading to significant traffic disruptions this afternoon. The incident occurred around 3.50pm when the driver reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest while navigating the motorway near Egham, specifically between Junction 13 and Junction 12. Emergency services, including paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and the Fire & Rescue Service, were dispatched to the scene. A spokesperson for SECAmb confirmed, "We were called to reports of a lorry driver in cardiac arrest on the M25 near to Junction 12 at Egham. Sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the man died at the scene." Following the incident, traffic was halted in both directions as emergency responders worked. National Highways reported that the M25 was closed anti-clockwise for approximately one hour, resulting in delays of up to 60 minutes in that direction and 20 minutes clockwise. At 18:45, National Highways announced that the motorway had reopened, stating, "The M25 is now OPEN anti-clockwise between J13 Staines and J12 M3 following a Police Led Incident. Please allow extra time if travelling in the area as delays of 45 minutes anti-clockwise and 20 minutes clockwise remain. Thanks for your patience." The police-led incident has since concluded, but motorists are still advised to expect residual delays as traffic returns to normal. The tragic event has raised concerns about driver health and safety on the roads, particularly regarding medical emergencies while driving.
