Veterans Day is celebrated annually on Nov. 11 to honor those who have served in the U.S. armed forces.

The federal holiday dates back to WWI, when fighting between the Allied countries and Germany ended on the 11th hour of Nov. 11, 1918, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs. The date is generally regarded as the end of "the way to end all wars."

Veterans Day always falls on Nov. 11. Arlington National Cemetery will host public observances, including a performance from the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” Concert Band and Chorus.
