UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- The Verona woman who was arrested in September after 17 horses were found malnourished on her ranch appeared in Oneida County Court on Monday.

First reported by the Daily Sentinel, 49-year-old Misty Carey pleaded guilty before Judge Michael Nolan on Monday, November 10. She had accepted a plea deal for one count of aggravated cruelty to animals, which is a class E Felony.

Oneida County Sheriffs were called to Carey's ranch -- the MC Stables in Verona -- in July, where they performed a welfare check on 17 of the horses on the ranch. All 17 were found to be in poor health, according to veterinary doctors. 16 of the horses were brought to other stables, and according to court reports, have since recovered.
