Sydney Sweeney proved she can take a hit — from the box office.
The star of “Christy,” the new biopic about boxer Christy Martin , defended her struggling film after a notably low first weekend theatrical gross of $1.3 million across more than 2,000 screens.
“I am so deeply proud of this movie,” the 28-year-old “Euphoria” star wrote in an Instagram post . “Proud of the film [director] david [Michôd] made. proud of the story we told.”
Sweeney added: “So yes I’m proud. why? because we don’t always make art for numbers, we make it for impact. and christy has been the most impactful project of my life.”
