ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (ABC22-FOX44) – A Vermont family is turning loss into legacy with a new scholarship created in memory of Army veteran and Essex Junction native Virginia “Ginny” Sweetser.

The Ginny Sweetser Memorial Scholarship will award $5,000 to women veterans, or those currently serving who are pursuing advanced degrees in psychology, psychiatry, or social work. The goal is to help future professionals who plan to work with people living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

“The focus really is on helping them get through their programs so they get their degrees and they can put their degree to use to help other people with PTSD,” said Ginny’s mother, Susan Sweetser.
