LOWVILLE, New York (WWNY) - Emotions often speak when words don’t. Leroy Schindler was drafted into the Army at 18 and deployed to Korea. His eyes filled with tears on Monday as he received a pin and certificate honoring his service.
“I want to thank everybody for everything they’ve done. I appreciate it very, very much,” he said.
Schindler is the first in Lewis County to be pinned as part of the We Honor Veterans program. It’s a national program to provide veterans receiving hospice care an opportunity to share their life’s story and be personally recognized for their service, likely for a final time.
