The New Orleans Fire Department contained a two-alarm fire overnight at the former U.S. Navy base in Bywater, officials said Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to a reported building fire at Poland Avenue & Chartres Street around 3 a.m. Tuesday and discovered a large fire on the second floor of one of the buildings. A second alarm was requested before 4 a.m., NOFD said in a news release.

The fire was under control by 5:16, a.m., firefighters said. A total of 17 NOFD units and 46 fire operations personnel responded to the fire.

No injuries were reported and a cause of the fire had not yet been determined, according to NOFD.

Several people reportedly living in the abandoned base left the building as NOFD fought fought the blaze.
