(Fargo, ND) — North Dakota Game and Fish Department is warning hunters about the dangers of thin ice. According to the department, the recent cold weather in some parts of the state has created thin ice on some small bodies of water, and the ice is still too thin to be on. Game and Fish says, while ice can form overnight, its thickness isn’t consistent and hunters who walk on the edge of a cattail slough won’t find the same thickness in the middle. Cracks, pressure ridges, and slushy or darker areas can be a sign of thin ice.
