November 11, 1918 - At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the armistice to end World War I was signed.
Reports of negotiations between the U.S. and Germany led people to believe an end was in sight and celebrations took place early.
When the agreement was officially signed, Omaha began celebrating at 2 a.m. Armistice Day is now known as Veteran’s Day.
