DICKINSON — A 34-year-old man was killed in an officer-involved shooting near the CHI St. Alexius Health emergency room on the evening of Monday, Nov. 10, according to the Dickinson Police Department (DPD).

In a news release, the DPD said dispatch began receiving multiple calls around 5 p.m. to perform a welfare check on the man after he reportedly made suicidal comments.

The man was located by officers outside of the emergency room of the hospital, and witnesses on scene reported to the police the man had fired a gun several times prior to the officers’ arrival.

According to the DPD, officers established a perimeter around the man and tried using de-escalation tactics before one officer perceived a lethal threat and fired their weapon at the man. The man was fatally struck and pronounc
