KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Rep. Tim Burchett, the U.S. congressman who represents a large chunk of East Tennessee in Washington, is confident the U.S. House will approve the latest spending bill to reopen the federal government, even if he’s less optimistic about avoiding shutdowns in the future.
“It’s the same old game we play,” Burchett said in an interview with WVLT Tuesday. Monday, the Senate passed legislation to end the longest federal government shutdown in history, thanks in part to a small group of Democrats who landed on a deal with Republicans, despite heavy criticism from their own party.
