LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Zoo has opened its doors to a transplant from Wichita, Kansas. Chrys, a male maned wolf, joins the Louisville Zoo just in time to celebrate his 8th birthday on Nov. 27.
“We are excited to welcome Chrys to his new home at the Louisville Zoo,” said Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville. “The return of maned wolves to the zoo‘s habitat is a wonderful addition, and we invite everyone to come see him and learn more about these unique animals.”
According to the Louisville Zoo, in the wild, maned wolves are normally solitary animals. The zoo has Chrys in the maned wolf habitat by himself. However, the zoo says it has received a breeding recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and plans to introduce a female maned wolf to join Chrys soon.
