Minneapolis City Council member Jamal Osman said he was carjacked in Minneapolis on Monday evening.
In a statement posted to social media, Osman said the incident took place around 8 p.m. near Lake Street and Portland Avenue, where he was parked and making a call to his sister. He was not harmed, he said.
Police believe the same suspects carjacked another person and their child earlier in the evening, according to Osman.
“My heart goes out to them - no one should have to experience this kind of trauma in our city,” wrote Osman.
A spokesperson for the Minneapolis Police Department confirmed an investigation into multiple carjackings that took place Monday. The department plans to share more details about the cases and possibly related arrests by late Tuesday afternoon.
