FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. — U.S. Marshals have arrested the man who allegedly met up with a former Charleston County magistrate to view and exchange child sexual abuse material.

John Badger Thorpe, 56, was booked into jail in Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 9 and appeared in federal court the next day. He’s charged with three counts of distributing child sexual abuse material and one count of conspiracy to receive and distribute the images, court records show.

Thorpe allegedly conspired with James B. Gosnell Jr. , a former Charleston magistrate.

Gosnell had been on the bench for nearly three decades when he was arrested Sept. 16 on six charges related to child sexual abuse material. The state Supreme Court suspended him within hours.
