BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - WILL WE SEE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS TONIGHT? What a show last night as the Aurora was seen as far south as Florida. A magnitude 4 geomagnetic storm is underway. The planetary K index used to measure Aurora activity was expected to be in the 6 to 7 level range last night and jumped to level 8+ on a scale of 0 to 10. A third CME has reached earth the forecast calls for higher Kp-Index values this evening. Bottom line, there is a chance we could see the northern lights again. The greatest timing will be in the evening through 9 p.m. If you can’t see the Aurora, also try looking through the camera on your smart phone for visual aid.
