HARTFORD, Conn — Imagine enlisting in the Vietnam War at age 19 and coming home a year later only to be called a "baby killer."
For many veterans in Connecticut and across the country who served during that era, it was their reality. They say it’s the kind of treatment that will stick with them forever.
"I literally couldn't wear my uniform because everywhere I was going wearing it, I was getting harassed,” retired Sgt. Steve Harris said.
Harris returned from Vietnam in 1968 and still remembers what people said to him when he came back to his home city, Hartford .

He says he was verbally abused repeatedly, as people said things like, 'You should have died over there.'"
