Louisville’s newest, and smallest, law enforcement agency has just one officer.

But as the Louisville Parks Police looks to grow its ranks, it has already been making arrests and has so far spent more than $100,000 on equipment for Chief Park Ranger James Brown and any potential new hires.

Through criminal charge citations and spending invoices obtained under Kentucky’s open records law, The Courier Journal has been able to gain a fuller picture of what the city’s lone Park Ranger does, as well as how much the program is costing taxpayers.
