WASHINGTON, DC — THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT, NOV. 12, PASSED A FUNDING BILL (H.R. 5371) TO END THE LONGEST GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IN U.S. HISTORY.
The bill, approved 222-209 mostly along party lines, included six Democrat votes; however, two Republicans voted nay. The Senate had already passed the bipartisan bill on Monday, with eight Democrats joining Republicans to reach the 60-vote minimum needed to bypass a filibuster. President Donald Trump signed the bill into law Wednesday night. The shutdown’s end means federal government employees — particularly air traffic controllers — will return to work and receive back pay.
