LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day in 1918, the Armistice to end World War I was signed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

Word spread quickly, and some Nebraska towns celebrated the victory a few days before and after the peace deal was signed.

Pictures from the Nebraska Historical Society show children celebrating in Lincoln’s “Armistice Day” parade held on Nov. 13, 1928.

Some of the photos are from a parade in 1930 in Lincoln.

In 1954, Congress changed the name of the Nov. 11 holiday to Veteran’s Day — honoring all those who served our country.
