VIRGINIA BEACH — A young woman was taken into police custody Thursday morning after a foot chase and what authorities are calling a struggle on Interstate 264.
Two Virginia State Police troopers, upon being notified at about 6:20 a.m. of a pedestrian roaming I-264 near Independence Boulevard, asked a 20-year-old woman to exit the lanes of traffic. The woman refused to comply with either trooper, according to state police, and a short foot chase ensued thereafter.
When the troopers caught up with the woman, she used pepper spray and scratched at both as they restrained her, according to a state police news release. Both troopers were taken to an area hospital afterward with minor injuries.
State police said an investigation was ongoing. The name of the woman has not been released.
