Two people have been killed in a ‘tragic’ collision on the M1 in Yorkshire.

A man and a woman, both in their 20s, were inside a dark BMW saloon which veered off the motorway and struck a tree at 11.30pm on Wednesday.

The driver and passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene on the M1 Southbound between junctions 37 and 36.

The victims’ families are receiving support from liaison officers. A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: ‘We have launched an investigation following the tragic death of a man and a woman in a fatal collision on the M1.
