Two people have tragically lost their lives following a devastating crash on the M1, which saw their vehicle veer off the motorway before colliding with a tree. South Yorkshire Police were alerted to the M1 southbound between junctions 37 and 36 at 11.36pm on Wednesday, November 12.

A dark coloured BMW Saloon had been travelling along the motorway when it departed the carriageway and struck a tree. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the driver, a man in his 20s, and his passenger, a woman in her 20s, were both declared dead at the scene. Specialist officers are now providing support to their families.
