The auto theft squad of the Montreal police department has turned to the public in an effort to locate 23-year-old Giovanni Santos Cabrera, who is wanted as part of an investigation into a stolen car ring that investigators allege could be responsible for the disappearance of as many as 50 vehicles since last July.

Cabrera’s alleged accomplice, Yvan Jean Elie Adjoumani, 18, was arrested Wednesday in the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville. The investigation into the pair has led thus far to the seizure of five stolen vehicles — all of them pick-up trucks — that were destined to be shipped overseas.

Investigators say they have reason to believe as many as 50 other vehicles stolen since last July could be linked to Adjoumani.
