The David Kampf era with the Maple Leafs is over.
The Leafs announced on Thursday afternoon that they have placed Kampf on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination.
If Kampf clears on Friday, he will be free to sign with any National Hockey League team. Attempts to trade Kampf by general manager Brad Treliving didn’t come to fruition.
One of the more puzzling moves that Treliving has made as GM in Toronto happened not long after he was hired at the end of May 2023.

A month later, Treliving signed Kampf to a four-year contract through the 2026-27 season with an average annual value of $2.4 million US. Fourth-line centres aren’t hard to find and both the term and money were a lot for a player of Kampf’s skil
