A murder investigation has been launched after a man was discovered dead inside a city centre flat. Emergency services were called to a property in Hanley following reports that paramedics had found an unresponsive man.

He was pronounced dead at the scene in Linfield Road at approximately 9.30pm last night (November 12). A cordon was established as detectives commenced their investigation.

A telephone box on nearby Bucknall New Road was covered in blue sheeting this morning as forensic teams examined the surrounding area. Door-to-door enquiries are also taking place.

Staffordshire Police are working to locate the man's next of kin.

A 56 year old man from Stoke-on-Trent has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning, reports Stoke on Trent
