A 59-year-old has been taken to hospital with serious facial injuries following a group attack after he tried to prevent shoplifting outside a Sainsbury's store. Police officers were called to an assault outside the supermarket in Guisborough's Morgan Drive at around 3.20pm on Thursday, November 13.

The victim, who is said to have tried to prevent shoplifting offences taking place, was attacked by several males outside the store. A 20-year-old man, who came to the older man's aid, was also attacked by the group.

The suspects are believed to have made off in a red Renault Kadjar, with a 16 plate. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and officers have confirmed a 19-year-old man is currently being questioned on suspicion of assault.
