CONCORD, N.H. —

As people turn up their heat and start using fireplaces and wood stoves, officials are urging safety when it comes to carbon monoxide.

Speakers at an annual safety summit on Friday in Concord noted that carbon monoxide deaths in New Hampshire reached double digits last year.

The family of Johny Heathco, who died of carbon monoxide poisoning in 2023 while at a resort in Mexico, spoke at the summit. His parents launched the John Wesley Heathco Legacy Foundation to raise awareness of carbon monoxide dangers, especially for travelers.
