LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Historic District and Landmark Board approved façade improvements for the Laredo Plaza Theatre and recommended new sign restrictions for historic buildings during a recent meeting.

Members approved the new improvements as part of the ongoing revitalization of the Laredo Plaza Theatre. The plan is to keep its iconic look while updating some of the materials and hardware.

In the same meeting, members discussed amending an ordinance to prohibit illuminated signage in historic districts.

“This purpose would be to align sign regulations with historic preservation goals, protect the architectural integrity and traditional character of Laredo’s plazas and to enhance the appearance of streetscape,” said Vanessa Fresnillo, planning and zoning official with the City
