LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - US Customs and Border Protection will start collecting biometric information from non-US citizens at international bridges along the Mexico-US border beginning Dec. 26.
The process, already in place at most airports across the country, will collect data as people enter and leave the US. CBP officials will gather biometric data, fingerprints and photos from non-citizens crossing the border.
Officials warn the new requirements could cause delays beyond normal holiday season traffic. The implementation comes the day after Christmas, during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
Immigration attorney Nelly Vielma said refusing to comply with the biometric collection could have serious consequences for non-citizens.
