LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - For hemp farmers in Kentucky, it is the best of times and the worst of times.
2025 produced a bumper crop of Hemp, something farmer Asa Phillips had worked years for.
But instead of celebrating, he is worried he may lose it all and the workers who depend on him.
“(My employees) got two months left and their job is over with,” Phillips said. “Probably don’t need them next year.”
Phillips is among Kentucky farmers with barns full of harvested hemp, who are now wondering where they are going to sell it.
Senator Mitch McConnell closed what he called a “loophole” that allowed buzz-inducing gummies and seltzers containing THC derived from Hemp.
McConnell said he was “rooting out the bad actors and protecting the growing hemp industry.”
