From the rich, volcanic soil of eastern Idaho, potatoes embark on a journey that eventually ends up on dinner plates across the nation.
At Gross Farms in Wilder, rows upon rows of spuds are harvested, sorted, and packaged before being shipped to stores, restaurants, and homes.
“To us, we want to get the maximum production out of every acre we have on this farm,” said Doug Gross, owner of Gross Farms.
The process starts in the spring, when farmers plant seed potatoes in well-tilled fields. Over the summer, careful irrigation and monitoring help ensure healthy growth.
