Orcutt Academy senior forward Elizabeth Johnson walked into the middle school gymnasium on Thursday night and immediately picked up a basketball.

She started taking jump shots with her teammates in preparation for the season, that begins next week.

Her smile never left her face.

A home can mean many things to people, but to Johnson, her home is on the court where lives with her extended family.

“At the end of the day, your team is your family,” Johnson said. “You are there for one another.”

Her living arrangements may have varied over the years but basketball has always been her home.

Johnson first picked up a basketball when she was nine years old. She previously played soccer but her coaches suggested she try basketball.
