MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan’s girls expect to compete for the South Piedmont Conference championship this season.

While that sounds absurd coming from a team that was 2-21 in 2024-25 and didn’t win a single SPC game, a lot has changed in Mount Ulla in the last few months.

Tiara Thompson has returned. That fact alters expectations considerably.

Thompson was a key component for West’s state champs as a freshman and sophomore, a smart 5-foot-7 point guard who can handle, pass and control tempo. She scored 770 points for teams that went 62-1.
