RALEIGH — Mary Church started for Meredith in her college basketball debut and had nine points and four rebounds in 30 minutes. She shot 3-for-7 from the field and 3-for-5 at the foul line.

Church, who starred at East Rowan, was the Rowan County Player of the Year for girls basketball in 2024-25.

Team-wise it wasn’t a great opener for the Angels as they lost 82-39 in Danville, Ky., to Centre College.

Meredith will look to bounce back this Saturday in Raleigh against Bob Jones University.
