MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating after a crash between a Maryville Police officer and a THP trooper left one in critical condition during an "executive protection mission" for Vice President JD Vance.
Officials said the Maryville officer, who was on a motorcycle, was sent by AMR to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and is in critical condition.
The trooper was evaluated at the scene.
"The incident took place during an executive protection mission involving multiple law enforcement agencies," THP said.
The crash happened the same night multiple law enforcement agencies were blocking traffic as Air Force Two landed at McGhee Tyson. Multiple sources confirmed to WBIR that Vice President JD Vance was in East Tennessee for a private fundraising event
