LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The support continues to pour in for the men and women of Okolona Fire Department, among the first to respond to the scene of the deadly crash of UPS flight 2976.
At fire station 76 on Friday, firefighters and their families read dozens of special cards from Kennedy Elementary schoolers sharing their appreciation.
“Thank you for saving lives, you are a hero," one read. "You are so, so, so, brave.”
On the night of Nov. 4, Okolona firefighter Marcus Hudson raced to the disaster zone, described as an apocalyptic scene that was raining oil.
“Bunch of fire, smoke everywhere," he recounted. "That's when, just for a second, you kind of just tear down the veil and go, 'Okay, this is going to be a lot.'"
