SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -As late fall transitions into early winter, most native plants enter a dormant state, offering a unique opportunity for landowners to identify and combat aggressive invasive species.

According to Francis Skalicky of the Missouri Department of Conservation, the easiest way to spot these invaders during this time of year is by their persistent green foliage.

“As we’re getting into that late fall and early winter period, the easiest identifying characteristic is that they’re still green,” said Skalicky.

Invasive species are remarkably adaptable, thriving in diverse environments from moist conditions to urban settings. They continue to grow well into the colder months, posing a significant threat to native ecosystems.
