India captain Shubman Gill retired hurt with neck spasm after facing just three deliveries of the morning session of the ongoing first Test against South Africa, being underway at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. Gill was seen holding his neck immediately after hitting a boundary as the physio rushed to the middle.
After a few moments, Gill, appearing stiff, walked off the field, retired hurt on four.
BCCI said the middle-order batter is being monitored by its medical team and a decision on his participation for the remainder of the second day’s play will be taken later.
“Shubman Gill has a neck spasm and is being monitored by the BCCI medical team. A decision on his participation today will be taken as per his progress," BCCI posted on X.
