Paul McCartney's old driving licence has been sold at auction - and it's brought back memories of an unusual connection to Coventry . The Beatles star was once fined for a driving conviction committed in the city.

It's well documented that the Beatles played multiple early concerts in Coventry, with an appearance at the Matrix Hall in 1962, followed by two performances at the Coventry Theatre in 1963.

But what's less known is that McCartney once got caught for speeding here. The conviction has come to light once again after the musician's former driving licence was sold at auction. Fetching £15,600 the old-style licence shows on the back two convictions and fines - one in Bath on May 11, 1969, the other in Coventry on February 7, 1968.
