Federal operations began ramping back up late Wednesday after President Donald Trump signed a bipartisan measure ending the nation’s longest government shutdown, closing out 43 days of halted services, lapsed paychecks and intensifying political standoffs.

The House approved the compromise bill shortly before the president acted, following the Senate’s bipartisan vote earlier in the week.
