Southern Californians are bracing for a wet weekend due to an atmospheric river , which is threatening floods in areas scorched by wildfires and triggering evacuation warnings in certain parts of Los Angeles County.

Parts of the region have already seen rain as of the morning of Friday, Nov. 14, with rain continuing throughout the day, especially in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, according to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles.

But it’s after midnight “when things start to pick up across the region,” said Kyle Wheeler, a meteorologist with the NWS San Diego.
