A chimpanzee escaped its enclosure, forcing a lockdown at the Indianapolis Zoo.
The great ape escaped Friday, zoo officials said.

What they're saying:
"At approximately 10 am, a female chimpanzee was seen outside her exhibit," the zoo said in a Facebook post.

"Following emergency protocol, the zoo was immediately locked down, and all guests were escorted to secure locations. The chimpanzee was sedated and returned to her exhibit."
The escape photos, taken by Tom Firak, show the chimp roaming around the zoo before being recaptured by authorities.
The zoo said guests were safe at all times, and there were no injuries to visitors, staff or the chimpanzee.
