KULA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman has died after a single-vehicle crash in the Kula area Saturday.
The crash happened at around 5:15 p.m. on Holopuni Road, about 340 feet east of Pulehu Road.
According to the Maui Police Department, a 21-year-old woman was driving west on Holopuni Road in a white 1998 Toyota 4-Runner when she lost control on a left bend in the roadway. The vehicle crossed the centerline, then overcorrected in an attempt to return to the westbound lane.
The vehicle then crossed back over the lane into the dirt shoulder, where it began to roll over and re-enter the roadway.
Authorities said the driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
MPD said the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
The investigation is ongoing, but police said speed is considered a fact
