Kalen DeBoer has coached in a national championship game. He has coached in a conference championship game. He has coached in six top-10 matchups during the regular season in just four years in big-boy college football.

He also has coached in an Iron Bowl. The JV version, at least, in Tuscaloosa.

The Alabama football coach is no stranger to big games, but he has never coached in a game quite like the one he is going to face on Nov. 29. Because he has never coached that game in that place. He has never coached an Iron Bowl in Auburn.

As if that assignment weren’t otherwise daunting, disturbing and diabolical enough, DeBoer’s best Alabama team just turned the last game of the regular season into his worst nightmare.
