Two girls, ages 12 and 13, were injured Sunday evening after an alleged impaired driver struck them and fled the scene in Saint-Calixte, located about an hour north of Montreal.

Quebec provincial police (SQ) say the incident was reported around 6 p.m., and both girls were taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers later arrested a man in his 60s in nearby Saint-Lin–Laurentides.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, his blood-alcohol level measured roughly twice the legal limit.

He was released pending a future court appearance under specific conditions.
