EARLE, Ark. - In a social media post to his community, Earle Mayor Jaylen Smith said the Arkansas city will start seeing "a significantly increased presence of law enforcement."

"This is not to intimidate our citizens, but to protect them," the mayor wrote. "We are taking strong, proactive steps to ensure that our neighborhoods are safe and that violence has no place here."

In Sunday's Facebook post, Smith said Earle had two shootings and multiple reports of gunfire in the past week. "As your mayor, I want you to know that public safety is — and will remain — my highest priority," he wrote.

Smith also said in the post that he would be working with community leaders and local organizations to help families feel safe.
