WASHINGTON – Former Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves said Monday he’s not interested in becoming the new head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Speaking moments after the resignation of David Richardson, the embattled acting head of FEMA, Graves said: “That job is critical. The agency is a mess and does need fundamental reform – including the states playing a beefier role in disaster prevention and response. But, I'm not a good bureaucrat, don’t have patience for slow change, and would get fired within a few weeks. So, I'm just going to jump to the conclusion and not get fired.”
Representing hurricane-prone south Louisiana, Graves, a Republican representative, became well-versed in FEMA’s protocols and procedures.
