Waterloo Regional Police won’t disclose where its 52 closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras will be placed in the region.

In a series of community meetings last week, along with a presentation to Cambridge city council, Deputy Chief Jen Davis said Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo will each have two locations with CCTV monitoring, while Wilmot, Wellesley, Woolwich and North Dumfries will each have one in Phase 1 of the project.

It is expected the first cameras will go live late this year or early next year.

As for why the exact camera locations, identified by police as areas of interest based on crime and high victimization data, have not been announced, Insp. Jarrett Brown said police have to enter into an agreement with the cities and townships to access their infrastructure.
