EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Parents and faculty gathered Monday for the Columbia County School System’s second “Let’s Talk” event at Evans Middle School, focusing on online safety and protecting children from digital threats.
The event addressed growing concerns about children’s online interactions, with Columbia County School District Police Sgt. Lee Peck noting that most social communications no longer occur in person.
“Most communications, most social interactions don’t occur in person anymore, they occur in the digital landscape,” Peck said.
Peck said in his presentation that 10% of teens in the U.S. have encountered predatory behaviors online. He said many of these interactions begin through seemingly innocent gaming platforms.
